After trekking 100 miles across the rugged landscapes of Tsavo East and West in Kenya, I found myself on the island of Lamu, a place that feels untouched by time. The journey from the vast savannas to this coastal oasis was surreal, and Lamu didn’t disappoint with its unique blend of culture and tranquility.
Wandering through the narrow streets, I found myself immersed in the local markets, surrounded by vibrant colors and the sounds of daily life. One of the most memorable sights? People traveling by donkey, a nod to the island’s ancient, car-free lifestyle. And to top it all off, I took a scenic boat ride on a classic trade sailboat, drifting along the coast and soaking in the beauty of this timeless island. Lamu, with its rich history and peaceful vibe, was the perfect counterpoint to the wild adventure of Tsavo.
