I spent a day in Qatar, and the first thing that hit me was the oppressive heat. Midday was unbearable – stepping outside wasn’t an option, so I stuck to exploring in the early morning and late evening. In the morning, I saw people fishing along the coast, quietly casting their lines in the cooler hours before the day fully set in.
By evening, the souks were bustling, with rows of stalls selling food, clothing, and even pets. It was a lively scene, but what surprised me most was that I didn’t meet a single person actually from Qatar. Everyone I spoke to was originally from somewhere else, which gave the place a transitory, almost disconnected feel. Qatar had its own kind of energy, but it was a reminder of the strange balance between rapid change and tradition here.
